Usage Instructions and Frequently Asked Questions
about The Keeper

How do I insert The Keeper?
First, fold the Keeper by pressing the sides of the light-weight flexible cup together. Now fold, the cup in half again. how to fold The Keeper for insertion
Hold the folded Keeper between your thumb and index finger. Then, while sitting on the toilet or in some equally relaxed position, simply insert the folded Keeper completely into the vagina. (If necessary, lightly moisten the RIM ONLY with water or water-based lubricant -- NOT petroleum jelly). how to hold The Keeper for insertion
Release the fingers from the cup so the cup will unfold inside. The pull-tab is now located between the vaginal lips (vulva). Now gently pull the tab slightly forward and downward until you feel The Keeper firmly in place. Sound easy? That's all there is to it! how to insert The Keeper
The Keeper is now in the correct position. The little cup follows the natural slant of the vagina. The Keeper does not touch the cervix, but rests comfortably below it. Be sure the pull tab is at the entrance to the vagina.

How do I remove The Keeper -- is it hard to get out?
how to remove The Keeper
While sitting on the toilet, grasp the pull-tab firmly so the tips of the fingers pinch the base of the cup. This action will allow air to enter around the cup, releasing the suction and making it easy to remove. Ease the cup gently forward and downward supporting the bottom of the cup with your fingertips to prevent spilling. Empty, rinse or wipe The Keeper (you can use toilet tissue) then simply reinsert.

How often should I empty The Keeper?
The Keeper holds one full ounce. Since most women flow 2 to 4 ounces during their menstrual period, emptying the cup a few times a day is usually adequate. After a month or two, you'll become familiar with your own menstrual flow pattern. You can wear The Keeper overnight.

How should I clean The Keeper?
At the end of your period, wash The Keeper in hot soapy water -- no need to boil. Dry thoroughly and place in the convenient purse bag that comes with The Keeper. If you wish, you may rinse it in a mild solution of bleach or vinegar and water, then rinse thoroughly with clean water.

Which size should I order?
Style A is for women who have had vaginal childbirth.
Style B is for women who have had a Cesarean Section or who have not had childbirth. There is not a large difference between the two sizes.

Will it leak?
Seepage should not occur. If any seepage does occur it may be due to one of the following conditions: The Keeper was not placed in its proper position or pressure against the vaginal wall due to constipation or a full bladder could have pushed The Keeper out of its proper position. A hint to prevent leaking: hold onto the bottom of The Keeper once it's inside and give it a full turn (twist). This will help establish a good seal around the top of the rim. We suggest wearing a GladRag cloth menstrual pad as backup protection the first few times you try The Keeper, until you get a feel for the proper positioning of it.

Is The Keeper comfortable?
Some women don't feel it at all and rave about how comfortable it is (see our testimonials page). Others find that the stem may bother them a bit or at least they are aware of it. Some women trim the end a bit and find that helps.

I'm allergic to latex. Should I try the Keeper?
No. The Keeper is made from natural gum rubber which is a form of latex.

I'm not sexually active (have never had vaginal sex). Can I use The Keeper?
Probably not. Although, if you use tampons you may be able to use The Keeper as well.

Do you (the owner of GladRags) use The Keeper yourself?
I'm a committed GladRags user and don't find The Keeper particularly comfortable. But then I don't like tampons, either. I do use The Keeper occasionally when I'm going swimming or spending the day at the beach and I'm glad I have it. But I wholeheartedly recommend The Keeper to lots of customers because I know so many women who love it. Jennifer, who used to work in our office never used anything but The Keeper and she had all her friends using it. Plus, it comes with a three month trial period, so if you are one of the few people it doesn't work for, you haven't risked anything by trying it. And if it does work, you'll probably love it and be set for the next 10 years. If I can help answer any further questions for you, please feel free to email me. -- Brenda
